Since its foundation in 1950, our family business has grown from a small trading company into a European innovation leader in the masterbatch industry. Today, we proudly look back on 600 employees at eight sites across Europe and we are not only celebrating our past, but also our present and, above all, our future.

Looking back on our success story

Gabriel-Chemie’s story began in 1950 with Josef Houska, a visionary entrepreneur who had the courage to create something new after challenging times. What started as a small trading firm for glass, spare parts, colourants and additives, developed into a production company for masterbatch in the 1970s – a decisive step that laid the foundation for international success.

In the 1980s, Gabriel-Chemie embarked on international expansion with subsidiaries in the UK and Germany, followed by Hungary and the Czech Republic. In 1992, the company moved its headquarters to Gumpoldskirchen, Austria, where it is still based today. Under the leadership of Elisabeth Sommer, the expansion continued with new sites in Poland, Spain, and Italy.

Today, the third generation of the family is actively shaping the company’s future. Together with around 600 employees, Gabriel-Chemie stands for innovation, quality, and sustainability – proudly looking back on 75 years of success.
